Afternoon in Malibu

We've been back to LA and Orange County for weddings often this year, usually a needed break from the intensity of New York City. Usually we try to meet up with as many friends as possible, but sometimes we have stints of time between meetings where we can explore a little. Here's a quick little guide if you have a free afternoon, a fun car to drive, and penchant for some sea air.

What to See

The Pacific Coast Highway is absolutely idyllic. It may have quite a bit more traffic than it used to, but as you get further north towards Malibu, the traffic thins out a bit. Stop by the beautiful Pepperdine University campus or drive through any of the neighborhoods to the side of the road and marvel at the beauty California has to offer.

On our most recent trip we made our way up to El Matador Beach, a popular site for wedding photographers and families alike. Parkings a bit of a challenge, but if you're lucky enough to land a spot in the lot it's only $3/hr.

Where to Eat

It wouldn't be fair to yourselves to go up to Malibu and not eat something from the sea. We stopped at Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market for a quick bite. We tried the Ahi Tuna Burger and fish tacos, but we have to say the winner was clearly the calamari. Of course, the vibe is what sells this place. Sitting on the patio overlooking the sea is not something to miss out on.
